Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: The Sensex fell 142 points to close at 75,867, while the Nifty 50 slipped 7 points to settle at 23,907. The Nifty Bank index declined 239 points to 54,854, dragged lower by HDFC Bank, which fell 2% and emerged as one of the top contributors to the benchmark decline.

Broader markets, however, outperformed, with the Nifty Midcap index rising 260 points to 62,559.
Metal stocks saw strong buying interest, with the sectoral index gaining nearly 2%, while capital goods names such as CG Power, Siemens and ABB rose 5–7%. Auto stocks also ended largely higher ahead of monthly sales data, with Tata Motors PV and Bajaj Auto among the top gainers.
Among individual stocks, Cummins India surged 11% after reporting Q4 earnings ahead of expectations, while Zee Entertainment gained over 10% amid reports of talks for FIFA World Cup broadcast rights. HFCL climbed 7% following a defence-related order win from RailTel, while Exide Industries extended Tuesday’s gains to end 8% higher.
On the downside, ONGC fell more than 4% after weak March quarter results and emerged as the top Nifty loser. Market breadth remained neutral, with the NSE advance-decline ratio at 1:1.
