President Donald Trump on Tuesday bragged about how he’s improved the economy … well, rather, what the economy could look like.
The president, in remarks at the White House Congressional Picnic, rattled off a list of his perceived achievements before touching on the economic state of affairs.
“We have an economy — people aren’t seeing it yet — when we inherited, when we started, we had the highest inflation in the history of our country,” he began, repeating a lie about inflation he has told time and again.
“And we actually had just before the war, before the energy forced other things up, but — up or down. We had the best numbers.”
He continued to falsely claim that the inflation rate was at “1.6%“ in the three months prior to his unpopular Iran war (it wasn’t) before adding that Americans were “going to see numbers like that again.”
Social media users on X used Trump’s asterisk for his economy against him, with one user writing “people aren’t seeing it yet because it doesn’t fucking exist” and another bluntly declaring that “it’s not going well.”
