Amaravati: The Government of Andhra Pradesh has successfully trained more than 60,000 women from Backward Classes (BC) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) under its large-scale tailoring skill development initiative aimed at promoting self-employment and economic empowerment.
Implemented through the Andhra Pradesh BC Finance Corporation in coordination with various EWS Corporations, the programme is designed to equip women with industry-relevant tailoring and garment-making skills, enabling them to pursue sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The initiative follows a structured 360-hour training curriculum covering tailoring techniques, garment construction, machine operations, and entrepreneurship development. Participants who complete the program and meet attendance requirements undergo assessment based on National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) standards and receive certification upon successful completion.
Under the programme, eligible trainees are also provided sewing machines and toolkits to support self-employment and income generation activities.
According to official estimates, trained beneficiaries have the potential to earn monthly incomes exceeding Rs 20,000 through tailoring services, boutique operations, garment production, and related entrepreneurial ventures.
