OpenAI has started rolling out a preview version of new personal finance tools inside ChatGPT, allowing a small group of ChatGPT Pro users in the United States to manage their money using artificial intelligence.

OpenAI has released a preview of new AI-powered personal finance tools for select ChatGPT Pro users in the US, enabling direct financial account connections via Plaid for budgeting, spending tracking, and investment monitoring through a new dashboard.
The new feature is designed to help users track spending, manage savings, monitor investments and plan finances more easily through AI-powered assistance.
According to OpenAI, the feature combines real-time financial information with ChatGPT’s conversational abilities to provide more personalised financial guidance.
ChatGPT Can Now Connect To Financial Accounts
One of the biggest updates is the ability to directly connect financial accounts with ChatGPT.
Until now, many people used ChatGPT mainly for general budgeting advice, saving tips or explanations about financial concepts. With the latest update, the chatbot can now provide recommendations based on a user’s actual financial situation.
The feature currently supports account connections from more than 12,000 financial institutions through:
- Web browsers
- iPhone (iOS) devices
For secure account integration, OpenAI is currently using Plaid and has also announced plans to add support for Intuit in the future.
New Finance Dashboard Added Inside ChatGPT
After linking accounts, users receive access to a new finance dashboard inside ChatGPT.
The dashboard provides a simplified real-time overview of important financial information, including:
- Investment portfolio
- Spending patterns
- Upcoming payments
- Mortgage details
- Savings progress
- Active subscriptions
The interface has been designed to give users a quick visual snapshot of their finances without needing to switch between multiple banking or finance apps.
AI Helps With Budgeting And Financial Planning
The updated ChatGPT can also assist users with various financial planning tasks.
Users can ask ChatGPT to:
- Create a monthly budget
- Analyse spending habits
- Estimate taxes
- Plan savings goals
- Track expenses
- Review investments
- Check possible credit card approval chances
OpenAI said future updates could also allow users to schedule sessions with tax experts once Intuit integration becomes available.
The goal is to make financial management more accessible, personalised and easier to understand for everyday users.
Powered By GPT-5.5 Thinking Model
The new finance tools run on GPT-5.5 Thinking, OpenAI’s reasoning-focused AI model designed to provide more advanced analysis and detailed recommendations.
According to the company, this allows ChatGPT to deliver smarter and more context-aware financial suggestions tailored to each user’s financial activity and goals.
The system is intended to help users better understand financial decisions instead of simply displaying numbers and account balances.
Privacy And Data Controls Included
OpenAI stated that users will continue to have control over their financial information and connected accounts.
Users can:
- Disconnect accounts at any time
- Delete synced financial data
- Erase finance-related chat history
- Control what ChatGPT remembers about finances
The company also said synced financial data will automatically be removed from OpenAI’s systems within 30 days after an account is disconnected.
Privacy and security are expected to remain major discussion points as AI companies increasingly move into sensitive areas like banking and financial planning.
Currently Available Only To Limited US Users
At present, the feature is available only to a limited number of ChatGPT Pro users in the United States as part of an early preview rollout.
OpenAI said the restricted launch will help the company study how users interact with the finance tools before expanding access more widely.
There is currently no official announcement regarding availability in India or other international markets.
AI Expanding Into Everyday Life
The new finance tools reflect a larger trend of AI moving beyond simple chat functions into everyday personal management tasks.
Over the past year, AI assistants have increasingly been used for scheduling, shopping, coding, education and productivity. Financial management now appears to be the next major area where companies are trying to integrate AI into daily life.
Supporters believe such tools could simplify money management for millions of people, while critics continue raising concerns about privacy, data security and over-reliance on AI for sensitive financial decisions.
